Skill 11 - Why Exchanging Information Will Improve Your Success - Patrick Carter

Skill #11 – Why Exchanging Information Will Improve Your Success

Early this year, Patrick Carter and Lynn Whitbeck began their incredibly valuable “PERFORMANCE” in Sales series, and somehow, it’s already coming to a close! Over the last several months, these two sales experts have taught us their top sales power skills, as illustrated by their “PERFORMANCE” acronym. We’ve already explored the first ten letters – “Problem Solving,” “Engagement,” “Resilience,” “Flexibility,” “Originality,” “Resourcefulness,” “Magnate,” “Agility,” “Negotiation,” and “Collaboration” – and now the duo have reunited to dive into the final letter, “E,” representing the importance of “Exchanging Information.”

They say that sharing is caring, and this rule extends to your sales career. How can an exchange of information position you for success?

Discover the power of exchanging information in our new Performance in Sales podcast below:

So, what is it that Patrick and Lynn mean by “exchanging information”? How is that helpful in your sales position? Part of it comes down to good old reciprocity. People like to help those who help them. You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours, as the saying goes. Instead of keeping useful info to yourself, it’s better to spread the love – or, the knowledge. Then, when others have valuable information, they’ll be happy to send it along to you. Now that’s good karma!

But more than feeling good about helping each other out, this information exchange will also make you more prepared to address potential issues, better represent your product or service, and communicate with your clients and colleagues. You’ll be poised to help others, in turn leading to your own career’s upward trajectory.

How can you better facilitate the exchange of information? How do you know who to get info from and who to pass it along to? Moreover, how do you train yourself so this power skill becomes second nature? Lynn and Patrick explain all in our new podcast. Through their own illustrative stories and actionable steps to practice, you’ll be an information-exchanging pro in no time!
