Social Media – Toxic or Inclusive?

Most of us use social media on a daily basis. From the obsessive poster with a huge following to the reluctant interloper, people use social media for a variety of purposes. It may be to keep up with friends or colleagues. It may be to keep tabs on what’s going in the world. For many, it’s a way to document our own lives. But with such a pervasive presence in our lives, it’s important to consider how social media can be used for good and how it can lead to problems.

What should you consider before posting something on your social timeline? How can social media affect your relationships with others? How do the various social options differ? Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and more all have unique types of communities with diverse norms and values. How you use each one – and who you connect with on each – will likely differ. Whether you use social media for work or for pleasure, make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into.
