Poet, memoirist, and civil rights activist Maya Angelou has been attributed as saying, “People will forget the things you do, and people will forget the things you say. But people will never forget how you made them feel.” Other people have expressed similar sentiments over the years, and indeed, the words ring true.
How does this idea apply in the workplace? How do you try to make people feel at work?
Remember that although actions and words slip from memory, their impact does not. What impact do you have on people? Be conscious of the things you say and do, whether you’re with a colleague, a customer, or a close friend. Everyone deserves our respect and kindness.
