Probably all of us have gotten calls, texts, or emails from scam artists trying to get access to your bank account. It’s getting tougher and tougher to protect ourselves against these fraudulent attacks. Luckily, we’ve got your back on this. In our new podcast interview, author Greg Aunapu reveals how we can spot the newest schemes, avoid them, and protect ourselves from being conned.
Greg has written and reported for dozens of national magazines and newspapers. He was a freelancer for Time magazine for a decade. While there, he covered everything from the trial of Panamanian strongman Manuel Noriega to financial crimes, political corruption, and fraud – including a bizarre art-forgery scam. Greg has published three non-fiction books with major houses, including two true-crime books: Without a Trace: The Disappearance of Amy Billig and American Spy, the memoir of Watergate conspirator E. Howard Hunt. His latest book, however, is all about scam artists. Check out Scam Alert: Stories of the World’s Greatest Modern Cons.
In our new interview, Greg explains the first steps in recognizing a scam and how to protect yourself against this fraudulent scheme. He reveals how scam artists use new cryptocurrencies for nefarious purposes, then describes the craziest scheme he encountered. And what should you do if you become the victim of a scam?
