It’s no secret that tattoos and piercings are extremely popular these days. While they’re common enough in older generations, they even more prevalent among younger generations. Perhaps you have tattoos and piercings yourself. And if not, maybe you’re considering getting some body art. Before you make any spontaneous decisions, though, there are some things you should consider before getting inked. Rachel has several tattoos and piercings of her own, and she shares her advice on how to choose your piece and how it may affect you in life and in work.
First and foremost, remember that this is a personal decision. No matter how popular tats and piercings are, don’t get them just because everyone else has them or due to peer pressure. Only you can decide if it’s right for you.
Some people out there like to get tattoos in the spur of the moment. Depending on your outlook in life, that can work for you… but we actually advise you to think carefully and sit with an idea before making it a reality. You don’t want any “ragrets” when it comes to something so permanent. You also want to make sure you get the tattoo at a good time. Getting one right before your vacation to Hawaii may ruin your trip!
How will your friends and family react to your new body art? Does their opinion really matter? Remember, it’s your body and your choice. But what about your career? How will they affect your employment opportunities? This can be a trickier matter, but for all the conservatism of old, times are changing and people are becoming more open-minded with each passing year.
Even as you age, don’t worry about how you’ll look when your hair’s gone completely white. You can rock tattoos and piercings at any age. Confidence and self-expression never go out of style!
